Custom 3D Pop-up Book for Children’s Early Learning and Storytelling

A creative 3D pop-up children’s book designed for early education and storytelling. This project combines interactive mechanisms, hand-assembled 3D structures, and vivid color printing to engage children in a multi-sensory reading experience.

1. Design Objective

The goal was to produce a durable, educational, and visually captivating pop-up book for toddlers and preschoolers.

The client required customized 3D elements, pull-tabs, and rotating mechanisms to enhance interactivity and encourage hands-on exploration while maintaining child-safe construction.

2. Structural & Design Highlights

Each page integrates unique mechanical structures such as:

  • Layered pop-up scenes that rise automatically when the page opens.
  • Pull-tab elements and rotating dials for dynamic storytelling.
  • Folded paper sculptures representing animals, architecture, and natural landscapes.

The book’s 3D folding engineering was developed through precision die-cutting and manual assembly by skilled technicians, ensuring seamless page motion and visual impact.

  • Cover: 157gsm coated art paper with 2.5mm greyboard hardcover
  • Inner Pages: 200gsm C1S coated paper for enhanced color and rigidity
  • Printing: Heidelberg 4C offset press, CMYK + spot Pantone for vivid tones
  • Finishing: Gloss lamination + anti-scratch varnish for durability
  • Binding: Case-bound with stitched inserts for strength
  • Assembly: 100% hand-crafted pop-up mechanism installation

4. Production Timeline

Structural design & sample prototype: 7–10 days Printing & die-cutting: 10–12 days Manual assembly & quality control: 10 days → Total production time: approx. 25–30 working days
